Went down to meet with an engineer Thursday so I stayed down and fished today. On the way down the marine repair shop from Carrabelle called. They had already told me my boat would probably not be ready for Friday, so I was pulling my in boat down anyway.. Bad news they said. It seems that somehow my vent tube to my tank had become stopped up and partially collapsed my tank. On top of that the deck inspection plate was leaking and had allowed water to pool on top of the tank and be pulled into the tank when the vacuum was created by no vent to tank. Bottom line, the tank I replaced year ago has to be replaced again. I'm beginning to wonder if I am supposed to enjoy the old pro ever again. The cost of the tank and repair is putting a dent in my already dented budget. Well at least my meal at Coastal was good.
Got up to a gorgeous morning and after getting some coffee to watch the sun rise, we launched the boat. Ran east. Stopped where I caught fish last weekend and no joy. Kept moving east. Finally found a bite. Mostly shorts. In fact, I was catching 2 to every 1 of my crew members, but I could not catch a keeper for nothing. Started working back west and on the last drift, I finally caught a keeper that was the biggest of the day. What a relief! I was in my boat with no fancy gps or depth finder, but eyeballing says we caught fish in from 3.5 to 5 foot of water.
Loaded up the boat and went to Carrabelle to check on the old pro. She looked sad and gutted with her belly all exposed to the world.
Now back to the house in time to see daughter home from UGA all aglow with her straight A semester. Finally, some GREAT news.
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE SMART DAUGHTER, WHY IS IT THAT THE DAUGHTERS ALWAYS SEEM TO BE SMARTER THAN OUR OLD KNOTHEAD BOYS. I KNOW THAT MY DAUGHTERS ALWAYS MANAGED TO GET SCHOLORSHIPS THAT SAVED ME A BIG BUNDLE OF MONEY SINCE BOTH OF THEM BECAME DOCTORS. MY OLDEST SON GOT TIRED OF DRIVING SEMI TRUCKS AND WENT BACK TO GET HIS DEGREE IN RADIOLOGY, MAKES ALMOST AS MUCH AS A TRUCK DRIVER BUT DOESN'T HAVE TO PUT IN THOSE 20 DAYS ANYMORE.
