Downed skiff out of Lighthouse Channel

Post by FishWithChris »

Yesterday evening we were making our way in to fish some of the bars out of the river and saw a POLAR skiff looking like it was taking on water. TowBoat US and two other center consoles were around and involved, so we stayed our distance.

We went on to fish but never did see the skiff again. Anyone know the outcome? TowBoat US had a rope hooked up to one of the rear cleats. Looked like a single male occupant. Hopefully they were able to bail enough and he was able to throttle back to dry land without losing the boat.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

We saw it at about 3:00 when we were heading in to the Lighthouse ramp. Strange scene when we saw it as a FWC boat was idling past it but looked to just be making it's way out the channel and there was no one else around. We were running between the submerged boat and the oyster bar and found a floating bucket with a cast net in it. Reported it to FWC.. initially the girl I talked to had no clue, but then an officer called me back and got me in contact with the owner of the boat. When I talked to the owner of the boat he was at Shell Island about to go attempt to retrieve the boat. He is supposed to come get the cast net from me.. but haven't heard anything else from the story or what happened.
