Shimano Stradic tip....

If you start to have no anti reverse on the older Stradics, the roller clutch assembly needs cleaning; it is located under the rotor.... It is compromised of several small springs, rollers and plastic pieces. No grease goes on this part or oil...

I was disappointed with complexity of the roller assembly and where it is located, under the rotor...All it takes to screw it up is a little dried saltwater and it will start acting up.... It being under the rotor, makes it easy for saltwater, dirt or any foreign matter to get in....There is a seal on the body, but I don't think it is much of a seal or the rotor could not rotate....

Anyway.... disassemble it, pay attention to the way the rollers and springs are assembled before you take it all apart (ask me why

), clean it, dry it, no grease, reassemble and it should be good to go for another 6 months to a year

I should have taken pictures, but I didn't...

Chalk's PMS (Preventive Maintenance Scheduling) for the month...

(I think the newer ones have incorporated a manual stop to back up the anti reverse and this might not apply)

As to the reassembly, the rollers sit in a cupped area on the right, the spring will go to the left of the roller.

Find the screw hole orientation for the cover; it will be on the assembly turned slightly counter clockwise. Once in place, turn it clockwise to align it with the screw holes. This loads the springs. Put the two assembly screws in and you have it.

Test it before you totally reassemble the reel (spool and all), if it doesn't work, it's either still dirty of reassembled wrong....

Obi Wan taught you well....

I have never had any problems with my anti reverse. My stradics have always been good to me. But, I have the older models as well, so that may have something to do with it.

I bought one and it did it right out of the box, so I took it back. Never used it. Haven't had a problem since then.

This sounds like one of those little repetitive tasks That I've always wanted to figure out how to do the second one first.
