I went down to the old causeway today. We got 3 doz live shrimp at fisherman's choice and got to the old causeway at about 1:30pm. The tide was low and it was kind of breezy. We walked a little more than half way down the bridge. The water was 5-7ft deep. We put 2 shrimp on the bottom and two under CT's 4 ft of leader.
Had a big trout on one of the CTs in about 20 min. Pulled a 19" red off the bottom a few min later. caught a few grunt for an hour. The wind was picking up, but it was still nice. Then the trout came out. Some fellas a 30yds down started pulling out trout after trout. I pulled up 3 more keepers during the next hour and a half. Lost a few nice ones too. Only pulled up one cat and one lady. Over all a great day.
I guess, on the old bridge, you have to pull those babies up a long way without a net, is that right? If that's so, how should we adjust our tackle? Maybe not use a circle hook? Heavier test line or leader?
Thanks for reporting on this new place for "shore" fishin'!
