One of the worst days for me
Well I got my boat out yesterday and cleaned the carb. Figured I would since I have not messed with it for about two years. We went out near shell island today to get away from the boat traffic. I'm in my stick steer with a 35 and a bigger boat cut me off. I slow it down and the motor stalls and floods. It got rough out there. Three hours later and sun burnt. I'm going trough the motor about to go insane. Finally trolled to a doc and really tinkered. Got it running and made it on the trailer. Then the solenoid for the trim goes out. It was brutal hot. I'm home with a cold one.
All for one sail cat. Did see a big red tailing. But no luck. No scallops. We mainly sat there.broke down all day. The game warden rode by, along with all the other boats and waved.
I put the motor on the hose at home and it runs fine. Don't know what got into it. Any ideas?

I had something extremely similar to what your describing that turn out to be the inner lining of the fuel lines collapsed from age ,ethonol or dumb luck. It ran like a champ on the muffs but like pooh with a load on it. Worth checking anyway and an easy fix.

New lines was the first thing I did to the boat. Whatever it is, is dumping fuel in it like crazy. On the way back In it was running a little like it wasn't getting enough.

You say "cleaned the carb". That can mean a lot of things.
I had problems a while back and "cleaned the carb" by running a sea foam/gas mix through it.
That helped but the problems were not solved til I had them rebuilt: no issues since then.

Re: One of the worst days for me
How is your fuel line/primer bulb? I've seen those be bad and make a motor run like you described it. I'd change the fuel filter if it hasn't been done in a while. Another thing I had done the last time I took it to the shop was they replaced the plastic rollers that are in the carb linkage, said they had rotted away with age. Before that it didn't idle worth anything, and that helped it. Good luck and stay away from ethanol fuel!

I took the carb off and all the plastic linkage and gaskets off. Soaked it in a carb cleaning acid for 40 minutes and put it all back together.
I should have left it alone cause it was running fine. I just haven't cleaned it in two years

It definitely sounds like a carb problem. I had the same issue earlier this year on my boat. Ran like a champ on the water hose but would die under load. I'm not sure if this was part of your carb cleaning process, but I ended having to remove all of the Jets and anything with a tiny hole in it, soaked each individual piece in carb cleaner, ran sewing needles through each tiny hole, put it back together and it ran like a champ.
Other ideas I can think of, would be water in the fuel system or a clogged fuel intake line down inside of the tank.
Best of luck to you. I know how frustrating that can be.

Quite often when they sit that long the gaskets and orings get dried out and don't seal good. I usually just get mine rebuilt so that they get all new gaskets and orings.
It could also be a stuck float valve. Seafoam will often clear that.

Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

That's a video of right when I got home. Without the breather on the carb. Maybe I just need to readjust the carb now that it's cleaner than before. I thought of the float, but I didn't mess with the adjustments on it. I thought it might had been a fuel pump, but it's pulling fine. The bulb was soft and easy to push at WOT.
Will sea tow pick me up in the flats? I have a 20' CC too. I'm just wondering if it is worth it. It covers up to $300 per tow. That can be just getting to ya.

Yes they will. I was with a buddy in the mouth of stony bayou and he hit a big rock which pot a nice hole in his hull. We pulled up on slough island and Capt Joel came and got us in his cat boat. Not sure what you mean, that it covers $300 pet tow ( is that your insurance?). Because once you pay your sea tow membership, tows are free. I think it is money well spent. I was offshore last weekend and a boat limped up to me w 8 people on board. Their other boat capsized 20 miles offshore, they forgot to send their sea tow check. He said it was going to cost $2000 for a tow. Good luckSwampcreek wrote:https://youtu.be/DZ3YYNi35GY

Happy to help LB, how did it turn out? I'm guessing you are the owner of the yellow sc, not the capsized boat( I think I remember y'all saying it was an 18" bay boat) Did you recover the boat? It looked like y'all headed for the hill after you left us. Hope it wasn't as hi as y'all were quotedxXLoneBowmanXx wrote:Salty Gator wrote:Yes they will. Re: One of the worst days for me
Unfortunately, mine was the boat that was capsized. 19' Sailfish. We spent the rest of the day dragging it back to the hill and then Sunday we spent the day trying to flip it over. In the process we damaged the console pretty badly and still ended up contacting Sea Tow to come and recover it. Cost us $1500 to get it flipped and towed back to the ramp and I am looking at another 2k in console repairs and replacing electronics. Needless to say, my boating is done for the remainder of this year. But, to highlight what you were originally saying, THE SEA TOW MEMBERSHIP IS WORTH IT'S WEIGHT IN GOLD. $300 vs $1500 - $2000 without it is a no-brainer.Salty Gator wrote:Happy to help LB, how did it turn out? Re: One of the worst days for me
That sucks sorry to hear. Did you tow it close to shore, then leave it overnight, and come back on Sunday to try to flip it? How deep did you leave it? Sorry again, this would be a great ad for sea tow
