Mini Season report Upper Keys
This was our 15 year trailering down to Key Largo for our annual family vacation which always coincides with the Sport Lobster season. This year half of our extended family didn’t make it down but we still had fun. This is a photo summary………………
I’m all about food so IMO this is the best way to START your boating day…….plenty of sandwiches
Tuesday:
Was spent pre-scouting our numbers checking on things with the eventual plan of prioritizing our search results and coming up with a plan of attack for opening morning. Overall there were good numbers of lobster but not as good as 2015.
Wednesday: opening day:
Running out in the dark just prior to 6 am it’s amazing how many boats there are already anchored staking claim to their honey hole!!
Sunrise
Daughter Kaitlyn with the first bug of the season
Transfer to the boat
Casey with an older bug (Bryozoans on its carapace)
Wifer making the grab
Nicky
3 Amigos
Decker boys
A good spot
Good effort
Re-measuring to reconfirm
My wife of all people brought a banana aboard ………!!!
Which through immediate extreme peer pressure quickly went overboard…….
Small ledge
Hitting the spot…….(viz was not good due to outgoing tide)
Casey measuring
Nick working it
Happiness is a livewell full…………
Bare Necessities which we’ve had for 17 years (on its 4th set of motors….)
Lobster crawl (reconfirm our count)
Good FAMILY times!!
Wifer n I
Only one Lion
End of a GREAT DAY!!
Thursday morning:
The Upper Keys were active with storms so we delayed our morning start. On a calculated risk we hit the water knowing there was only one more small squall coming…..
Small squall
Refreshing rain!
Switching gear…..a little fishing
Nick with the first yellowtail
Kaitlyn
Dinner
Lobsters knuckles!!!! A family favorite!!
Gotta love being down in the FL Keys………………..!!
Be SAFE & good luck everyone for regular season!!

You don't know how long I looked at the top picture and tried to decide what kind of fish fillets or lobster meat was in those bags.
