Skipper Bay Road, Panacea

Post by spothogg »

Can one drive to the water on Skipper Bay Road? Want to launch kayaks there tomorrow and fish. I thought someone last year told me the road was blocked well before the water.

Alternative launch site is Bottoms, but want to be closer the north end of Piney/Oyster Bay.

I got to the end in my VW Golf last year. There was a good puddle in road, maybe 3 to 4 inches deep. I had to disconnect my intake to get through, but a truck shouldn't have a problem. Ground clearance becomes your friend towards the end, but you should be fine without 4x4. There's a hand launch towards the right before the really hairy stuff that I would launch at. It goes to a creek that has a pretty dep hole where you see 3 creeks meet, and maybe a 5 minute paddle to the bay.

Bottoms road to Skipper Bay is a hell of a paddle in the conditions forecasted for this weekend. Good luck and be safe.
