Any Scallop Reports?

Post by Mckayaker »

Saw several posts from folks thinking about going last weekend. Would love to hear how it went.

Water clarity is the color of dark tea based on my experience in the western part of the bay yesterday and from a buddy's report out of the Lighthouse.

May be wrong, but I'd suspect scallops are over for the season.

Also wondering if they are still thick around the rock garden east of the lighthouse, they were before the storm but I'm not sure how that affected them. I want to get one more trip in

I fished St. Marks on Sunday.

My observations:

1) Observed 8 or 10 boats at different times with Dive flags up from the Rock Garden and on to the East.

2) All boats moved several times over an hour or so then ran back towards the Sand Bar.

3) By 1:00 there were no boats that appeared to be scalloping.

4) The water looks like 4 day old sweet tea. (probably taste like it too)

So draw your own conclusions. The urge to get in "one more trip" seems to overwhelm the harsh light of reality in some folks.

Sorry.

Any luck fishing. Fished around Cobb on Saturday and picked up a mess of trout. 3-4 feet of water, white gulps.

After all this, you know, unseemly stuff that was washed into the water during Hurricane Hermine, I don't think I want to be diving in.

I also wouldn't want to eat any oysters or scallops ... they might not be healthy.

Would the grass flat there at Wakulla Beach be a good scalloping spot? Or anywhere else besides the Lighthouse?

Scallops normally like cleaner, salty, tide-moving water which is not what you have in the Wakulla Beach area in the middle of Summer. I've collected scallops off of St. Marks going East from Black Rock to Grey Mare and I've seen them behind the condos near Summer Camp over toward Carrabelle. There may be some in between those two points, but I haven't found them. Keep in mind Scallop Season Is Currently CLOSED. Somebody revived this thread a little early this year.
