Is smoke Mullet good for cut bait

I've got 6 about 13" in my cooler that were swimming yesterday and will take a hot grease bath this afternoon
As for the cut bait question.... Smoke mullet, take them fishing with you, pull smoked mullet out, cut a finger off and put on hook, eat smoked mullet to forget about your hurting finger
