Aucilla 11/28/16
Wanted to try Aucilla again one more time before the rain and wind gets here. Launched about 0950 and went down to out spot we did good in on Friday. Started catching shorts and finally got a keeper and 2 big white trout. My buddy caught 2 big croakers, I have never caught any of those in Aucilla. The wind got up about 1130 and would not let up, we had to anchor the boat fore and aft so we could still fish. Managed 3 more keepers before the wind and fighting stuck anchors got to be too much, so we left about 2:30. There are a lot of mullet in the river, I tried to snatch some and almost hung one and he came loose. Saw a lot of boats netting them. We ended up with 4 nice trout, 2 big white trout, and 2 big croakers, 8 fish in all. Many short trout and a lot of ladyfish. Natural z-man plastic shrimp took most of them, also caught some on white/chatreuse gulp. Tight lines.

The wind in town yesterday was crazy! If you guys were being blown around in a power boat I can't imagine the frustration for me in a kayak. Glad you got some!

I'll second CCA's comments. Leaves and limbs were raining down at my house yesterday. Glad you persevered and stayed safe.
It'll be interesting to see how conditions shape up this week. We need the rain bad but too much could have an impact on fish moving into the coastal rivers. The croakers may been there due to the higher salinity levels.

I usually fish down at Ecofina but, I know Aucilla is a little bit closer. How far is it to the mouth of the river? Do you fish in the River?

HOMEBOY, IT IS NOT TOO FAR TO THE MOUTH OF THE AUCILLA, MAYBE A MILE. YOU HAD BETTER KNOW WHERE THE LIMEROCK OUTCROPPINGS ARE OR YOU WILL BE SPENDING SOME BIG BUCKS. WE ALWAYS JUST IDLED ALONG AND STAY IN THE CENTER OF THE RIVER , EVEN DOING THIS WE WILL HIT A ROCK EVERY NOW AND THEN. THE LAST TIME CARL BROWN AND I FISHED THE AUCILLA WAS ABOUT 4 YRS. AGO JUST BEFORE I HAD MY HEART ATTACK AND BEFORE CARL DIED. WE HAVE CAUGHT SOME HUMONGUS REDFISH AND SOME PRETTY LARGE SPECKS IN THE CUT OFF GOING OVER TO REDFISH HEAVEN WHICH TURNS OFF TO THE WEST FROM THE MAIN CHANNEL ABOUT HALF WAY OUT TO THE MOUTH OF THE AUCILLA. THERE IS A LIMEROCK SHELF THAT GOES ALL THE WAY ACCROSS THE RIVER JUST A SHORT DISTANCE FROM THE LAUNCH AREA, WE ALWAYS KEPT CLOSE TO THE LEFT SHORE AND JUST PADDLED TIL WE GOT PAST THAT ROCK. YOU CAN IDLE ACROSS THAT SHELF IF THE TIDE IS OVER 1/4 ABOVE LOW TIDE.

Silver King, the salinity is definitely higher now, the water tastes salty where we fished just below the landing, and my anchor brought up some oysters once. The SE wind was whipping the gulf into the river.
