St George state park 2/11

Post by Rbmcrae »

Good but tough day fishing out behind the state park. Put in around 10:45 to fish the rising tide. Caught probably 20 or so 14 inch trout but managed only 8 keepers(4-15,3-16,1-17) Only color gulp that would produce was white with red jig head. Had some luck late on topwater but some porpoises moved in on us and it immediately shut down. Didn't see the first sign of a redfish or really anything but trout and mullet. That said any day we get to see a bald eagle catch a fish at sunset and fly back to its nest is a good day!!!!

Last few times we have been down we have have done very well fishing behind oyster bars just out from state park boat ramp. We used to have more luck behind the park but recently that has slowed some. Best days we have had were over behind the plantation airport but with strange weather recently didn't feel like running all the way down there to potentially strike out. It was the first time we have fished those bars and not at least seen a tailing red. Wish I could be there today as that short little let's call it "cool front" had fish biting slower than normal. Today should be good!
