Steinhatchee 3-11

Post by Rbmcrae »

Left the dock about 6:15 with in a line of all the redfish challenge boats. As the sun was rising myself and 5 of my soon to be new friends found ourselves deciding that a day on a beach was better than fishing! The tide was the lowest I have ever seen in over 20 years of fishing steinhatchee!!! After pushing ourselves off the bars and making sure the rest of our beach party was ok we noticed that the "shoreline" we all were following was actually grass flats uncovered by tide. Crab traps were completely exposed 300+ yards inside the waterline. But enough of tide stories....

We must have caught 100 short trout without exaggeration with most in the 12-14 inch range. This fall could be really good fishing without crazy weather! Got into some keepers on flats outside dallus creek and nothing would hit without some chartreuse on the plug or gulp. Seemed like tides had fish on flats but near the deep creeks. Saw one school of reds that survived the tourney moving around near rocky point but couldn't ever get within casting range. All in all Fun day on water but ready for those 14 inchers to be 18!!!!

It was 11:00am before we could get out at spring warrior. We caught a bunch of shorts and rat reds with only a few keeper trout mixed in.
