VHF Channels
I've noticed very little radio chatter on CH 16. Where do most of you guys monitor and chat around Keaton/Econfina?

Re: VHF Channels
Hopefully not much chatter on Ch. 16, as it's the distress/hailing frequency.
Channels 24-28 are for chatter, along with another set in the mid- to upper 80s.
Not sure about KB area, but I usually use 27 or 28.

I've always used 14. At Eco and Keaton. I usually try to hail members to see who's around.

Re: VHF Channels
Any ideas on checking to see if radio is transmitting? Tried to do radio chk with seatow on 26 and 27 several times yesterday at icky and no response. Is their auto response not working or is it my radio?

Re: VHF Channels
Ive had trouble with the automated radio checks on 26 and 27 as well. Sometimes its super clear , then sometimes no response.
Re: VHF Channels
The only time my radio said anything was some yahoo trying to get a radio check on channel 16 and the coast guard reminded him that the channel was for emergencies only.
What we should do is all the people on this forum to pick a channel for either St Marks or econfina area and to monitor that channel.

Re: VHF Channels
Hit N Miss suggested we all start using 14. I think that's a great idea no matter where we are fishing the areahomboyfsu wrote:The only time my radio said anything was some yahoo trying to get a radio check on channel 16 and the coast guard reminded him that the channel was for emergencies only.

Re: VHF Channels
I'll have my vhf set to channel 14 from now on when I'm on the water. I'll be fishing out of Steinhatchee this Friday-Sunday.

Likewise....14 sounds good to me.
I don't know when I'm gonna catch my next fish but I know when I do it's gonna be awesome!
Re: VHF Channels
Looks like the majority wants 14 to be the channel. I will be monitoring this channel.

Re: VHF Channels
I was told years ago that most folks at Ecofina used 14. And I have been using it ever since. Although invariably some one will try to raise Maybleine 150 times in a day. Lol
