Dirty water

Post by Pirate »

Question: When wind gets the water all stirred up and dirty the trout bite shuts off. Do the trout leave the area that is dirty and find cleaner water until it clears up or just quit feeding and stay in the area and lay low?

How Dirty? Clear to McDonald's Sweet Tea? or Iron Horse Mud Ranch dirty?

It varies - water temp, salinity, etc. Typically they'll find some cleaner water, but sometimes you just need to change the colour of your artificial you're throwing at it, or throw something that can make a bit of noise and they'll find it!
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

Thanks FishwithChris, I'm talking about real silty. We do change colors and go bigger. We were just wondering if fishing closer to the passes might help. Hopefully the next three weeks won't be as windy as the last three.
