Finally! I caught my first st marks red. We ran out to the flats fri afternoon and caught some short trout and short bsb. Decided to run back to the fort to load the boat and fish some oyster bars on the way back in. First stop with a frozen shrimp on a jig head and this baby jumped on it. 26 3/4". Man what a fight! That kind of a fight will make you wanna go fishing every day. Flats water was pretty clear, lots of floating grass. Temp 81. Fished 6-8 ft but only one keeper trout and one keeper bsb. But enjoyed the family time.
They are harder to come by in St marks unless you want to get really shallow.
Ironically I've had luck at the first creek mouth east of the lighthouse(not far). If you can make a good cast just outside the shoreline grass on a high tide with a catch 2000.. Hang on.
Just like bass fishing it seems(for me at least) a big part of fishing for reds is making the perfect cast.
