kayak fishing this wekend

Enjoy reading the recent topics on kayak fishing. I am planning a trip to Wakulla Beach this Sunday. Would like to meet some you guys and gals there this Sunday. I will be there around 9:00 AM. If there is some interest on another spot, I am in for that too. Hope to hear from you guys and gals, on the site.

Hey that sounds great. I am renting for now so i will have to see if the shop is open on sundays. i would love to go out there and see where some of the hot spots are. Hows the weather going to be this weekend ?

Not sure I can make it. My wifeâ€™s out of town & I got the critters. Iâ€™ll work on getting a sitter.

Rentals should let you have a kayak late Saturday & not charge for the extra time.
Addressing an earlier question first:
How is the water clarity around Wakulla beach?
Itâ€™s been clearing over the last two weeks but that bay (Goose Creek) gets turbid on any falling tide â€“unless itâ€™s Dec-March. It just has a lot of organic productivity and with a falling tide it flushes the creeks & near shore (littoral

zone). Where & when I have found clearer water pretty consistently is to get there on the rise and go to the west side of Pattyâ€™s Island.

An earlier post also asked for good places to kayak fish. Thereâ€™s a passle of â€œanswersâ€

wow what a great post! you really know your way around the area. it would be great if you could make but if you cant b/c of the kids i am sure we would all understand. i do have one more quistion for you. what would you recomend for bait. i have been using DOA shrimo under a CT and that seems to work. thanks again for the great post.

Just kidding. I realized that I didn't say anything about strategies and that's because I don't know. I ponder that. Be the fish. Like usual I would have two rods ready first with top water & CT/grub. It wouldn't take me long to switch to straight grubs and maybe a gold spoon. I'd have my cast net and bait bucket with me to sell out artificials if nothing was working. I expect there to be fish around though and it's our job to catch them. Be the fish sounds corny but many times when I really believe an artifical will work it does. This is especially true with lures that I think I can work well, like top water and jigs. Make a jig really work and fish can't stand it. I agree with the DOA plan. I should use them more, especially now.

Live shrimp? Almost never. I see it as spending money to feed pinfish.

Yeah Lit, That is a great and in-depth analysis. Just the scientist, that you must be, coming out.
Your input on this board certainly adds to our education and shouts the attributes of kayak fishing.
I think, it's just a matter of time before the environmentalists decide to
ban power boats from of some of the grass areas.
When that happens, kayakers will be ahead of the game.
The weekend forcast is calling for cool nights and abundant sunshine
with high temps in the 70s and wind less than 10.
Should be a great weekend.

qoutrage & FSUkayaker, thanks both for the compliments. I put a little time in on the post because I was addressing a few threads at once. Must add though, a scientist I'm not. Teaching is my trade and what I try to do. Since I do work closely with some exceptional scientists I can say without question, and I don't say it lightly, that to teach well is much more difficult than being a scientist. And the rare few that do both well always agree with that.

Excellent post, hope you guys can make it Sunday. I have fished Bald Point several times. The best time I have found is when the tide starts running over the horseshoe bar at the mouth. Large Redfish seem to roam over that bar. Fishing is good until the bar loses the water, once that bar is exposed, the fishing seems to stop.Just some notes from my past experiences.

I'm planning on going and I'll know sometime Sat. if I can make it. I'll check on-line late Sat. to see who can do the trip. Weather sounds great & I expect inshore fish to get ansy with the temp drop.

seems my sitter is going to Cape San Blas to kayak in St Joe Bay with some friends.
some gall she has.
Oh well, I've already said a ton on what I'd do if I could go, most of it anyway

Doesn't look like I'm gonna make it this Sunday. Have a meeting for a group project tomorrow afternoon. Ya'll have fun and be sure to give a report when you get back.
