On Saturday afternoon I noticed the tide and weather conditions were favorable for a late morning start out of the lighthouse ramp. I called a buddy and he informed me he was needing to get his boat out for a workout as it had been over a month since he did so. Since his tow vehicle was otherwise being used he suggested we use mine. I readily agreed.
We started by working some bars near the mouth of the St. Marks river with no luck. Maybe the fish were not there or it was our choice of lures. Whatever the case we had heard from a very reliable source there were some fish in a particular creek. Up anchor and a brisk ride later we arrived at our target location.
There were quite a few quality Trout caught. All were caught on Catch 2000 suspending lures. It didn't matter what the color. We caught a couple of shorts, but the bulk were from 16" to 22". We kept two for the table, one 17" and one 18". All the others were set free to make babies.
It was a great way to end the 2017 fishing year.

Re: New Years Eve trip
Nice way to wrap things up, Jim.
I fished Saturday and after a chilly start, the bite turned on. Caught about 40 trout between 13 and 20 inches. Very aggressive strikes, even with the water temps in the mid-50s. Caught mine on DOA 2.75 shrimp in root beer, Storm 360GT swim bait in pearl ice and some big Jackall shad tails in olive/gold. Also landed one rat red. All were caught in less than four feet.
Normally go on January 1st to christen the year, but with 35 degrees and winds gusting to 15 this morning, I'm sitting this one out. Doesn't bode well for the rest of the week, either, unless ice-fishing is on the agenda.
No complaints, though. Finished 2017 strong and look forward to many fun adventures throughout the next 12 months.
Happy New Year, everyone! Tight lines and big fishes for 2018!
