What's the comparison of a marlin caught on conventional tackle to Cuda being caught on fly tackle..
Anyway...I got a fly rod and reel today....8 wt....Thought I would see if I still liked it as much as I used too.....
The tackle store came too
....I had to stop at Howell's and get some parts to my 5500....and left with a few SPRO jigs, mirrolure, pair pliers and another slap stik to add to my collection.....Think I need to put wheels on the tackle box....

Chalk,
on getting the fly rod.
The 8wt is fine for trout, reds and most things on the flats, you may be suprised what it will handle.
The reel is probably more important, as it needs a good drag and as much backing as it will hold (just in case).
I'm sure you know all this info already.
Offshore I have caught dorado and barracuda on a fly rod, but it was a 14wt.
We raised them trolling teasers and bait, then threw the lures, using poppers and sub surface flies.
Unbelievable experience.
My friend Barri from Jax has caught salfish and marlin, on a 14wt fly rod.
