So here's an abbreviated version of first attempt.
Left LH at 9:45 am Sunday. Beautiful day - not as cold as expected. Went east past Grey Mare. My friend's first cast - 17" keeper trout - that was encouraging. They were fishing with live shrimp under a CT - I used a DOA under a CT.
This may sound like a "reel fish tail" but I can count on two hands the number of times I reeled in without a trout on. After I landed the 3+pounder and fish after fish, my friend, who was only occassionally catching fish, switched to a DOA. I thought it was interesting that a DOA out fished live shrimp so badly.
After TWO hours we had our limit and had thrown back countless shorts and even a half dozen or so keepers in the 15 1/2" range. Never cranked the boat after first stopping and neither did the other 6 or so boats I saw. When someone moved - it was to leave. Water still wasn't clear.
I'd look at the calm water and wishfully think about the offshore folks. Talked to a fellow back at the landing who showed me his two nice gags caught about 5 miles out trolling.
Looks like the bite may finally be on - hope the weather holds also.
