Great weekend at Econfina

Post by kenfly »

Me and a friend of mine from ga got down to the river for a few days to get in some much needed fishing. Friday got down and fished a couple of hrs before dark, ended with limit of reds and threw back 4-5 more, 3 keeper trout and threw back some shorts , sat wasn’t in a hurry got out around 930-10, had a limit of reds and trout by lunch time, did get a nice sheepie, being we had those limits we decided to do something haven’t done before and target the sheep head being we had some shrimp left, ended up with 7 nice ones and 1 flounder ImageImageImageImage

Awesome report!

Won't make any rude inquiries into precise spots fished but out of concern for the health of the bay would love to know what the water clarity was like, and if clear enough what the grass flats looked like / look healthy and thick or sparse?

Been nice enough in 2019, but God knows last year seemed one of the rainiest I can remember with heavy rains month after month after month... so I've been a bit concerned about how the grass flats would be holding up this year. Pray ok.

Great weekend at Econfina

Water temps were in the mid 60’s most of the time, Friday evening a lil warmer been heating up all day, sat I was as shallow as you can get (knew would heat up the fastest) and near oyster bars less than a foot of water and waited for the tide to come in, didn’t see a whole lot of grass and visibility is still pretty dirty, but was clearer south toward rock island than back toward aucilla

Nicely done. Sheepshead are always a fun and tasty bonus.

As you and others proved, the waters to the east always start producing quicker.

West Flats/Shell Point/Mashes Sands area Sunday was 5+ degrees cooler (64 degrees) than east of the Lighthouse and nearly void of life except for a few scattered mullet. Water clarity was 2-3 feet with a distinct reddish stain.

. That’s good to hear. We fishing 3 days first weekend in April. Flats ought to be on fire by then.

Nicely done. We fished hard on Saturday in cool windy conditions around Shell Point and managed 6 trout to 19". No reds. Water temp was 65. Saw Spanish jumping and had one cutoff but did not land any.

Friday at Ecofina we fished in some ruff water. It laid down in the afternoon and we got on them. 4 of us put 18 good trout in the box, 1 flounder and a nice sand trout. The trout bite was very good in the afternoon.
