A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
NOAA was right on the money yesterday ! I had hoped to to offshore, but the report kept me inshore w/ Fishmasterson.
SLICK AS GLASS all morning out of Aucilla. They called for 10 to 15 NE winds. Unless my sense of direction is WAY off, what little wind there was came from the SSE, and it finally picked up around lunch, but not 15 mph, and not from the NE.
I don't want to b!tch too much, I know those guys try hard, but this was way off! Looks like they got today right, trees are swaying pretty hard here @ the house.
'Gotta remember- Even the best metrologist can't do it right 100% of the time.
I've found, most of the time; they over forcast or error on the conservative side. It is an inexact science at best, even with all the modern tools. 'Can't dictate to Mother Nature.
With fishing and the weather, it goes back to the old adage- "You can't catch anything, if you don't go".
We have to be a little bull headed, sometimes.
It's just, that you have to know, when to turn around and go home.
Y'all know exactly what, I'm talkin' about.
You decide, 'what th' hel, le's go anyway..
Ya load up and head out, if it don't start rainin' or somthing, and if it does, ya go on to the landing and take a look.
Then its- Whatdaya'll think?
Well hell, Le's go...
Ya get out there and give it a try for a couple of hours, and the wind starts to kick up.
Ya Kinda wish you had paid attention to the forcast, maybe stayed home.
4 hours later-'Wanna move again, or y'all ready to get outta here?
A signal from the Capt to the others, he's ready.
Le's take it in...
Ya hook up the dirty boat and wet gear, knowing ya gotta spend and hour or so cleaning up
and putting everything away- Dang weather, guess 'they' were right.
On the other hand, 'coulda gone the other way- Ya get out there and fish gods cooperate, and ya catch some fish and go home, definant- you out guess the weather guys..
Also remember that forecast if for a pretty large area. From the SUWANNEE RIVER TO APALACHICOLA and includes near shore and off shore. So with that large an area it can be doing one thing in Apalchicola when its completely different near the Suwannee river. But yes I agree they do usually predict on the safer side, in that they will usually over estimate at times.
