Boat battery chargers

OK so the motor can only charge "one" battery at a time. So if I use the cranking battery to get me where I need to go and use the other one for electronics and or trolling motor. When I run out on 1 and switch back to 2 to come back in it should charge back 1 right?

NO, you charge one on the way out, charge 2 on the way in. In other words whichever one you started the motor with is getting charged.

So if I go out on "1" and that is the battery the motor started off of it will charge the battery? So while im using it it charges the thing too?\\

I think what we've come to is the following:

If your Outboard (OB) is running and the battery selector switch is on #1, you are charging battery #1.

If your OB is running and the battery selector switch is on #2, you are charging battery #2.

If your OB is running and the battery selector switch is on "both" or "all" your OB is attempting to charge both but according to what we've learned through this thread.....the drain/demand could be more than the OB charger can put out and lead to a premature failure of the OB charging system.
