Panama City Beach Fishing

Looking to pull the boat over this weekend and fish the bay and maybe find a school of bulls on the beach.

Any tips or tricks for fishing over that way this time of year? Targeting reds trout and mackerel. The weather should be great.

Don't know where you're launching from so can't make any specific recommendations but you can find trout and reds in just about every bayou off the bays. I prefer East bay ( more bayous) but fish West bay almost as much. We've had so much rain and bad weather lately I haven't been in almost a month but you can expect tannic water conditions unless you're close to the pass. If you're launching anywhere near the State park, I'd fish the docks inside Grand Lagoon for redfish and the flats just outside the bayous for trout. If you just want to catch and release bull reds, anchoring near the jetties in the pass and fishing with Carolina rigged live bait should work on the bull reds.
You could stop by Howell's or Half Hitch tackle to pick up some bait and helpful info.

Thanks for the info. I’m kinda torn on where I want to fish. I was thinking about putting in at the park on Saturday and fishing the pass, beach and some shoreline in that general area. (Need to be close to the beach per the wife)

Sunday I will prob shoot over and put in somewhere in East bay and fish until noon.

The weather looks fantastic no matter where you are in north Florida this weekend.

That area gets really crowded with tourists, pontoon , jet skis and party boats on weekends but In that case, I'd throw the wife in the boat and drop her off on the beach on Shell Island. (East side of the pass) You can keep an eye on her while you're fishing if you fish the beach on the gulf side and you might find Spanish and reds there if flipper isn't close by but it's a tourist stopping area to watch the dolphins. Your best bet is to fish the shoreline on the bay side Saturday and then Sunday hit the flats outside one of the bayous in East bay. imo.

I haven't been in a month and last I checked the temps were still in the 60s so I doubt there are many if any out there yet but he said he wanted to target mackerel so I just mentioned a good place to start looking.

Actually saw some hitting bait today. Offshore temps ranged from 65 to 69...

No luck today. Got out a little late in the morning. We fished some creeks in east bay in 1-4’ of water and some flats in the afternoon. Water temps at 70 in the bay and pass.

I saw multiple boats pulling in HUGE sheepshead at the shell island jetties (south point).

Spanish were not running the pass yet.

Going to try north bay and try to get some reds in the morning.
