Are Cobia good to eat?
Hi all. New to the board and to saltwater fishing. Can't seem to find any trout or redfish mainly because I don't have a clue what I'm doing and I get skunked most of the time. So I started using the same spring trolling technique I use on Lake Michigan when headed back to the ramp and started catching cobia. They are really fun to catch! I thought maybe instead of letting them all go I might keep one but if they aren't good eating there's no point in it. Any opinions?

I think a keeper cobia has to be about 33'' long, am I right? Is that what you caught trolling? Great fight.

Doesn't a cobia have to be 33'' long to keep? I bet those things pulled.

They're poisonous! Be careful and immediately release them and then post when and where you caught them so we can report your catch to the proper authorities.
They're also a trash fish. The larger ones are just adult Remoras that have outgrown the sucker on their heads. They aren't good to eat.
I need to get out of the house and go fishing!

The poison is what makes them taste so good..Juan wrote:They're poisonous! Be careful and immediately release them and then post when and where you caught them so we can report your catch to the proper authorities.

Didn't measure them but I don't think any were 36" long. A black/silver floating J11 Rapala about 50 yards back worked. I guess if I get a legal one I'll keep it. Thanks.
Re: Are Cobia good to eat?
How many people just googled Rapala J11?
