Social Distancing @ Keaton beach 5/15/20.
I took the day of to fish with my beautiful wife today hoping to beat the weekend crowd. Got launched and headed out the canal at 6:30 with only about 6 trailers in the lot. We were heading out the canal to a beautiful sunrise and we noticed we had a hitchhiker(lizard lol). Saw Mr Pat getting ready to head out and said hello.
With a tip from him we headed north.
Caught a short pretty quick the not much for a while. Then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 26” Spanish in the box!
Was pretty slow after that till we moved further north and got into the fish.
Water temp 72-75 and found them in 4.5-6’. Decided to put a 21.5” in the box for our oversized one.
Put a few more trout in the box when zzzzzzzzzzzz off to the races again.
Big Spanish ran about 100 yards off the spool before turning him. Had nine trout in the box and caught a 23” trout.
Man it hurt having to throw it back. Then my wife caught trout number 10 at 1:30 and I started packing up. Then see says she has a fish on. I figured we would have to throw it back anyway so I eased over to look. Dang! Nice red so I ran to get the net out of the front hole and netted her 1st ever red at 24”.
Man what an awesome day with my beautiful wife.
Can’t wait to do it again.

Glad you had a fun, productive day with your wife, HnM and it was relatively quiet, traffic-wise. Good job on the fish.
Question though, why do you regret having to release a 23-inch trout? That's a breeding female, full of roe this time of year, and wormy to boot. Wasn't the thrill of a nice catch enough? Didn't you take home enough meat with the legal bag limit? The new rules were designed to protect the breeding stock and I for one am glad they're working. Will mean more action for all of us in the future.
Not trying to pick on you personally, just underscore the fact that the Gulf is no longer limitless. Hasn't been for a long time and this virus situation has emphasized the pressure the stocks are facing. Long-term conservation is the key if we're going to enjoy sport-fishing for years to come.
Thanks for the report. Enjoy your filets.

Catch pinfish and cut into shiner tails. Fish em under corks on a wide gap jighead and work em like a jig and grubWill In The Wild wrote:What was working for you ? Headed down Sunday for the first time in a few months.

I must make sure and bring the livewell net next trip. I looked like a cat chasing goldfish in a bowl trying to get pinfish out of there lol. ::Note to self fished spots at spring warrior at new scallop spots found. In coming tide east wind 10-15.
