St. Marks 11/21-22 -

10/21 -Me and my son Travis left the Fort Sunday afternoon at 3:30 or 4 pm. My goal was to run to the St. Marks reef and do a little bottom fishing, with a back-up plan of just sitting on the old steamer to get some sheephead. When I reached the mouth of the river, I spotted â€œReel Funâ€

Sounds like a fun time was had

the Grouper seem ta be a little deeper this week than they have been being "around the 40 ta 50 foot mark now"

That fog can shorenuff make ya tighten up when trying ta follow the channle back in

Thanks guys- I am still learning how to navigate, and the fog + night made it a real challenge. Now I can say...been there- done that...kind of thing. Can't say I want to do it again though....

Wevans - I think I'm ready to switch to Zebco's and head out at Panacea - that might get me to the 40's- 50's quicker

Sounds like the place I need to try next. I've been to the landing at Mahses and it looks like a good spot.

What kind of zebco's are you using?

When I go out that deep they are called a Penn 113H and a TLD25

My inshore favorite is "now" the Zebco 733 HAWG

Sounds like the reel I need. My shimano's arent holding up to the salt water they way I though they would. Maybe I get one from Santa

WOW...great report (are you a writer ?). I only caught lizard fish trolling sunday

But....I haven't caught a fish yet without a hook in the water

so it's always nice just being out on the big pond

Wrong color stretch. That's a clear water bait. Water is dark. Try something brighter next time.

I'm not a writer I'm just another "wanna be" and enjoy the interactions and exchanges I have with everyone. Reel Fun- I am relieved to know that I was not the only person catching Lizzard fish.

Even if I don't catch fish, I try to humble myself and go ahead and file a report and try to pass on the blow-by blow. The picutures help describe the conditions & some of the catches. Like many of you, I am visually oriented and would like everyone to "be there" and "see it".

Tom- The lure pictured didn't catch as many Lizard fish as the florescent chartruce stretch on the other pole. Some of the rock bass were keepers, I just felt really guilty and released them because I dragged em for a while before I realized they were on the hook.

Maybe one day I'll catch some real offshore fish

You need three eyes...one on the speed, one on the depth finder and the other in the back of your head watching the rod tips.....Generally when a "suicide" rock bass or lizard hit's it the bait will rise to the surface...Watch them tips...
