With the wife and kids and all the kids' friends this past Thanksgiving weekend, stacked like cordwood in St. Teresa. It was cold and windy most everyday, and didn't look popular to put the 13'er in and take off by myself, so it stayed on the trailer.
Saturday morning, at the dead low tied, I head out to wade in the water. I had my new rod and reel setup I copied off littoral, a 7-foot light to medium action rod with a midprice Shimano Symetre reel and Power Pro 10 lb. test. You'd think I'd catch somethin' but NOT.
Changing back to Power Pro line was interesting: it is hard to tie that thready stuff, but man it soared off the end of the rod!
As I was getting in the cold water in my quick dry fishing shorts, out came a fella in waders with two big ol' trout on his stringer, one at 24" and a fatty: call it a Gator Trout. Fella said he caught him on a rootbeer colored DOA. He caught the second on an electric chicken colored jig.
So I tried, in my imitable fashion, to imitate him too! I slung my 'lectric chicken and my glow colored DOA and my garnet and gold jig tails and I got to casting real good with my new set up, but got nothing! I think it was too late in the day. And it was cold!
So the next morning, Saturday, I got out there for the first shift of the tide out of the low, say about 9 AM.
After an hour of no action, I got me a short on an electric chicken and then a real nice sized keeper, which I relaesed without measuring because my brain was frozen.
A couple fellas arrived and knew the bottom real well and waded to the end of a dock some folks fish with boats. It was very shallow with the radically low tide, and they hooked up well on some trout right away too, in the same time frame I did, as the tide was just starting in. They were casting far out from the shore.
For me, it was extra cool, as well as cold, because I am getting more and more the hang of artificials; and the releasing was nice, under the circumstances, too.
Been too busy to fish much these past weeks, and it was nice to get in a coulple of hours in the water, which was crystal clear, and to catch sometihng to boot!

Yeah, that's dang bold of ya to get out there in shorts. Jeans and LCD's might'a been a little better, if no waders, but still freeze ya butt off, either way .
At least you gave it a try and had a little luck.
I'm thinking about giving the kayak a try in the next day or so, if it ain't too windy...'will let y'all know how that goes..

If a fishing/hypothermic victim is alive when rescued but later suffers irreversible effects, and there is no other significant trauma or disease, does this suggest that death may have resulted from either:
i) inappropriate or ineffective treatment, or
ii) no treatment at all, or
iii) too many redfish hanging on the side of the victim or too few?

Hey there, been too busy to post much but I was pleased to read you're using the Symetere & Power Pro. Did you also go with the St Croix? The Power Pro takes some getting used to. It's tricky to tie. I posted my new favorite knot for it a while back, a u-knot. It helped me a lot.
As to fishing. I didn't get out over the entire holiday and lately I'm not real pleasant to be around.
I posted elsewhere that reports indicate the fish seemed to turn on near the top of the tide. When I've found fish the last few weeks they were either hitting or absolutely not. Congrats to anybody who figures it out. I think times like this challenge your skills & those who solve the puzzle can reap great rewards. My sig to left of this here post is from a January day when I figured it out.
By the way, I was wondering if you would have gotten quite so cold if you had a kayak...?
What might you have caught...?

Yep! Went with the St. Croix, and the lures just whipped out there! And speaking of gear, I am in the mode of wanting a kayak. My problem is that I am too careful when I make such a purchase: It takes me forever to decide what to get! I don't know anything about it, and then there are other toys I am intested in too, like a trolling motor, an an underwater camera, and scuba gear; and that distracts me. And of course a bigger boat.
Now, my bride on the other hand, she gots other ideas!
So, I AM getting a 'yak! What kind? When??? I don't know! In the meantime, I may get me some waders.
