Anyone ever fish the freshwater side of Hickory Mound?

Curious if anyone has ever taken a kayak or what have you over there to the freshwater impoundment side of Hickory Mound to fish for bass or bream (or landlocked reds that washed in there during a hurricane...)?

I've always wanted to. After driving an hour, I can't make myself do it. Rumor hasn't its mostly puppy reds and freshwater fish. You never know till you try.

I’m about ready to go try it now because so many other places are flooded.

Almost everything I’ve ever caught there was on the freshwater side on the incoming tide in the 1 well known spot. I wonder though if that’s just the 1 school of Redfish that swims in through that pipe every time. I’ve never put in there and fish that whole impoundment. I’ve never seen anybody do it either.
