Best bottom fishing rig

Post by Reddogwood »

Hi there, looking for any suggestions on the best bottom fishing set up for the shallower reefs in 15 to 25 feet? Particularly best method to tie on weight and leader? Will be at alligator point at the end of July and planning to explore some of the near shore reefs. Planning to stay within five or 6 miles. have a good list from the FWC website. We’re not hard-core, just looking to have fun and catch whatever.

Appreciate any input!

I like to have one knocker rig tied on and one chicken rig

I second the recommendation for a knocker rig and a chicken rig, which is two hooks on a line with a sinker on the bottom. On the reefs out to 6 miles, you will likely catch a lot of grunts and some seabass. If you are lucky, you might also catch a mangrove on the knocker rig.
