Tripletail late July - Alligator Point

Looking to chase some tripletail while visiting alligator point next week. I’ve got a decent understanding of tackle/approach/tactic, and I understand general thought is the TT’s are bigger towards Apalachicola, agree? If so, better chances cruising outside St. George Island or inside the bay? May have opportunity for both, but just looking for general thoughts on inside vs outside?

Any other pointers are welcome of course.

I have heard of TT caught in AP Harbor from time to time. I looked a couple of times and struck out.

To actually go TT fishing you need to trailer over to Apalachaica and fish the bay to the west. That's the main area they are caught. I fish Dog and SG Island all the time. Almost never see a TT.

If you go to Appalachacola and hit the crab pot buoys with a live shrimp you will catch some TT. They might not be legal size but the fish are there.

Ok thanks. So you’re saying inside the barrier islands? Better chances than going outside the islands?

To be honest I don't fish there much in July/August. I'm more interested in shallow water redfish and the water is too hot for that right now. All of the TT pics and reports I see are from Apalach but you are welcome to cruise the outside and give us a report.

I tried Fish’n TT last year when there were fads and traps galore. I hear FWC has removed those because navigational hazards. That said there are more fads/buoys close to St. George Island bridge where the FWC hasn’t removed as of yet, good luck

I just went with a guide last week out of St George. The big ones are on the west side of the bridge to St George. I think it has something to do with the river water right there. The west side is where they concentrate. Fads are put out and marked by guides. You would need a flat bay to just ride and find them. You could be successful and I may try it soon. You won't always see them floating at the top. Fish everything you see, sticks, pvc, buoys. A slip cork works good to get the bait to slide down. Fish close to the structure. We used dead shrimp, cut mullet strips, and dead finger mullet.

Bad taste in my opinion. To book a trip and tell the world where that guide took you to fish, to each their own.
