End of April Report

Post by Phil. 4:8 »

Finally dusted the pollen off our Skiff and took a ride out from the light house ramp. Under the word "beautiful" you could have found the weather yesterday. Just enough breeze for a good drift and to keep us cool. The tide was pouring in, so we drifted to the back of a cove (you've probably been there). Along the way were plenty of small trout to keep us happy while fishing electric chicken jigs under a popping cork. We tried several feeder creeks and was rewarded with a nice keeper sized red. It was his lucky day, and we released him for you to go after. All-in-all a great day to enjoy the gulf and time with my bride. Y'all go get em and post.

:-D Glad you got out there, nothing like time with the wife on the water. Wish I could, did you try the flats? Would think it be on out there. :-D

With all the reports of the bite being active as well as some time spent last weekend, Mom has been wanting to try her luck. I will be taking her out this Saturday. For her sake I certainly hope she catches a few. She really enjoys getting out on the water and putting a bend in the rod.

So basically all is going normal to start a fishing season if you’re anything like me.

O yeah…totally normal. I’m sure I’ll be making a similar report after Monday when I go. I got my boat back from the welder today.

My boat totally leaked, but not where the welder fixed it and what leaked was fixable with JB Weld so that’s done. The upper Aucilla is a disaster and I made so much noise with the chainsaw and banging the boat where I didn’t chainsaw that I didn’t think I was going to catch anything. I didn’t have anything for bream fishing because I’d forgot my Zebco was destroyed the last time I went last year. But the truth is I still did ok considering. I got 2 bass and 1 of them was a few pounds. And a few bream on the big bass lure. No giant Redbreasts like you usually get on the bass lures but still a good day. I’m going back tomorrow with a new bream reel and no chainsaw.

I made a bad decision to go on downriver to what’s called Middle Aucilla, pretty far into it after the the end of the upper no less, so I wouldn’t have to fight logs. Instead I fought current. Lure fishing was out. All I caught was a Blackfish and he destroyed my lure. It had to be live bait down deep or forget it. I only know that because my friend caught 25 yesterday sitting with worms. By just looking I would have guessed it was still too high for that even.

I haven’t got to fish in calm tea colored water in a couple of years now, and I’m a little bummed to be honest. Meanwhile the last time I did it was log after after log which I cleaned up, but that’s been 4 hurricanes ago wtf.
