Preliminary scallop reports post helene

Post by boomhauer »

Heard a third hand report someone was seeing scallops from the boat when the water was clear of St Marks…
Wouldn’t that be nice after all the storms.
Any other sightings?

As I reported in the Inshore Forum last month, I fished Steinhatchee the first part of May and again the week before Memorial Day and I really didn’t see any. Granted I was concentrating on fishing and was in mostly water 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 ft deep. The water and grass were beautiful and I noticed a bunch of last year’s shells but live scallops were rare. I hope maybe they were deeper and will move in but it will be interesting to see what folks say once season opens. It would be so sad if on top of everything they have been through for the scallop season hence the tourist season to implode. HOPE NOT!.

St marks is decent for scallops.
Not as far east as usual. Even heard people were getting some off shell point.
Water is super clear right now. Scallops on the small side but in a month or so will be nice…
If you work at it you can get a nice dinner!
