Panacea Offshore 2/11-12

Post by doomtrpr_z71 »

After the good offshore trip we had before Christmas I got the itch and decided the weather looked good enough to throw a trip together last week. My boss knows if I take off a random day during the week the weather must be right to run offshore :ROFLMAO:

Unfortunately I had to get through a meeting before we could head down to panacea and it of course drug on

Ain't nobody got time for that

Unfortunately being in a rush was pointless

Cause ochlochnee bay was quite rough Wednesday afternoon and the wind was ripping and we didn't make it very far offshore, I wanted to go to rotary reef but it was way too rough to ride out so we fished the hole in the mouth that apparently has filled in instead of being 30ft deep.

No dice

So we went to the room fairly early, we decided to stay at the oaks, we previously had stayed at the panacea motel and the oaks is much nicer. Lou took care of us and we actually rented the good catch bungalow which was nice. I will say park out front under the oaks don't drive through the rv park with a 24ft boat in the dark like I did since I had never been and didn't know where the cabin was. The doll was creepy on the property

Good thing is it's within walking distance of both the tropical trader and Angelo's so we decided to eat Angelo's since the fishing was not good in the rough. Excellent as usual

We got up a little late with the tide Thursday morning, I swear mashed sands is shallower than it used to be, I actually got too far over to the left and had to back up Wednesday and Thursday was pretty skinny going out. But it was much calmer, I was able to run in the mid 30s out to the first spot and bam as soon as we pulled up everyone but the livewell man had fish on and we had 3 keeper seabass. Livewell man felt left out

But then the grunts showed and they were hungry

Very hungry

After getting a nice mess we headed out deeper to look for red grouper and the wind calmed down with the seas getting nice

Well deeper didn't pan out and we just found more grunts and seabass so we decided to run in to make sure we had water to get to the ramp. Calm enough to run in at 55 and we had a nice board of fish even without some red grouper.

After cleaning half of those fish we had an appetite and I will say the snapper manicotti was excellent at the trader.

Definitely gonna not gonna leave much paint on this foot :ROFLMAO:
