Shell Point 3/10-12

Post by doomtrpr_z71 »

Well March came around and I had to pay what I owed for a research trial on a product I formulated. The researcher wanted a sheepshead trip so I decided we'd take my boat one day and a guide for another day. And I even bought a fancy new quest trolling motor since my current terrova shaft is to short if the weather is rough and a 24ft boat is a bit much for 80lbs of thrust.

Problem is I didn't realize how big they are compared to a terrova and I needed to order a bracket.

So no new toy for this trip.

Well we rented a house at shell point since that was cheaper than shell island fish camp so I put in at shell point for the first time and honestly I think thats my favorite ramp in the St marks area. Said researcher was supposed to meet at the ramp, and as is typical for him he was too late and said hed meet us at 8pm. So instead of sheeps we decided it was calm enough to run out and look for red grouper.

Weirdly all I caught on my slow pitch jig were puffers

And I learned this trip there are differences between coordinates apparently between adm and gpx formats as the points don't line up perfectly but its fine. No grouper just grunts and seabass, but we only kept the ones big enough to filet.

Image

Ended up with 40 big grunts and 15 seabass.

This was also a first for me and was quite erie, fog rolling in after lunch, very Silent Hill like

Made it back in to find that Bob would not make it until the next morning, so whatever, I did text my wife and tell her she needed to work harder so we could afford a house on a canal

We hit the tropical trader for the trifecta of Wings, Pizza, and oysters

We started off the next day with a beautiful morning as well.

We got on the boat with Capt Asa and headed out

Oh and Bob actually showed.

And so did the sheeps

Until the goliath decided he wanted to eat our sheeps so we had to move. Well after catching 9 good sheep the goliath showed again and we decided since Christian couldn't get any of his sheeps into the boat he needed an experience. So he got quite the experience

Nice table of sheeps to end the day before hitting angelos

As usual Capt Asa was an awesome guide and put us on the fish and is always great fun to fish with

Angelos was good as usual but after we got back to the rental, I noticed I had a trailer issue. I cracked my step on the left side

Luckily they warrantied it quickly and I had a new step at my house by Saturday.

I guess Florida was sad to see us go cause the weather sucked the next morning

Always fun loading the boat with a rainsuit

But we made it home safe with a cooler of filets so hard to ask for more
