Handheld VHF ?

Post by Sea Fox »

My father and his friends fish the Apalach forest rivers and creeks and alot of time there cell phones are useless, and I was wanting some tips on a handheld I could get him so they could have a decent chance of getting help, if they needed it. I would like to stay below $150. Thanks, SF 8)

Sea Fox, This is very useful information about handheld VHF radios.

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... wtovhf.htm

I don't know what creeks and rivers in The Apalach Forest your father is fishing, but chances are the handhels VHF wouldn't help much. The range for both reception and transmission is limited.
What was I supposed to do today?

Thanks for the info TC, I know that a handheld would not reach carrabelle but almost all the people I know around there that deer hunt have a VHF in there truck. I just thought that it wouldnt hurt to have one on board.

It would never hurt  most of the time the FWC officers are monitoring the VHF to try and listen in on the hunters who should not be using VHF ta start with :o :-D
