With regard to setting and recovering the anchor.
A friend of mine had a similar looking boat.
His had a forward locker accessed from the cockpit and he put a hatch in the deck, at the bow.
The anchor was recovered from inside the locker and the rope/chain was stored inside, with the anchor secured in a fitting on the deck.
I hope that makes sense.
wevans, my friend now lives in Spain and that boat was sold years ago.
I was the anchor man and the hatch opened on a ring key from inside, or outside.
It had a recessed fitting with a rubber seal and closed down very tight.
When we used the mud anchors, or the small rock anchor, they were stored inside.
The large rock anchor was disconnected from the chain and clamped onto the deck.
There was no hole in the hatch lid.
Thanks Crans. The anchor storage is in a covered well/hole at the front of the deck, and there is a cabin hatch in the middle of the deck. You can access the deck thru the cabin, but it's over the cushions and you have to be a small framed person to make the turn. You really need to actually climb thru and onto the deck to handle the anchor properly. The danforth and chain has to be played out between the rail and the deck. 'Kind of a pain to mess with.
If the water is pretty calm, walkin around the cabin isn't bad, but in chop or better it's asking for a dunking. My neigbor sez just anchor from the back, but I don't like that idea.
I was just thinking an electric winch might be the way to go- And in particular, this Minn Kota Deckhand 40. The winch and remote switch runs about 300 bucks. 'Just wondering if anyone had any info or experience with it or orther electric winchs. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... stid=48576
Sorry we have kinda wondered off the subject for OS reports. I will start another thread under BOATING- What kind of anchor?
