Boat storage options...

Got my eye on this little house but the folks in the neighborhood say 'no boats' so what are my options of keeping a boat off of my property? I think we are off to a bad start already so I think I am going to pass on the house. This might be an informative post for myself and others. Say I had a 17-foot center console without a T-top and I wanted to fish mainly Econfina and St. Marks from Tallahassee... what are my options... does anyone know? What are the associated costs? I fished with Simpson once and he had his boat in a nice little shed at Shields... are there any of those available?

I have no idea what boat storage costs at a marina, or any idea of its availibility. But, there is a self service storage facility on apalachee parkway, near my house that rents space to park boats, campers, and the like.

Give Chuck Shields a call in St. Marks. He has complete covered storage for small boats in his "hangars". When you call ahead, he will have your boat in the water, usually by the time you get there. Don't know what he or his son is charging these days. Try 925-6158 or 925-5612.

I have a 18 foot center console as Panacea Harbor Marina. I pay approximately $135 month with taxes. It's like $110 for the boat then another $20 bucks for trailer storage. It was cheaper last year; but, they raised their price on boat storage like $0.25 a foot and their trailer storage went up from $10 bucks to $20. Mine is stored outside on the rack. In the barn is a little more expensive. People there are great and extremely helpful to newbies like me. When I was looking, Shields was very comparable in price as was Bay Side Marina. Everybody had some openings when I was looking; but, that was several months ago. Shields did also have some hangar type sheds around the back. They were significantly cheaper; but, I can't remember how much. They didn't have any of those available when I was looking. If you're in one of those sheds, you back trailer, boat , and all in, then pull it out and put your boat in the water yourself. I live in one of those subdivisions like you're looking at...pass on it unless you absolutely love the house. I hate not being able to have my boat at the house. Makes playing real tough. I agree. What are they going to say about my BBQ, peeing off the back porch, and Steve Earle songs over the stereo on Sundays during the NASCAR races?

I need to play 'guitar town' (by Steve Earle) and 'east bound and down' (by Jerry Reed) at least 12 times for Dale Jr. to win.

Expect storage to get tight now that Bayside is being turned into townhomes and the facilities being only for owners of said homes

I keep my 23' WA cuddy at shields in the " on the trailer storage". It's $55 a month, I really like it. To keep this boat on the rack (in the big buildings, where they put it in/out for you) would cost approx. $175 per month ( they charge by the foot). With the "on the trailer storage", you have access to your boat 24/7....it's not that big of a deal to hook up to the truck and put it in the water...approx 200 yards. I think some places may be available...see Chuck or Brett, they've always been very nice to me.

Don- I actually read it:

"Section Nineteen. Ancillary vehicles. No boats, campers, trucks larger
than 1 ton pickups, trailers, motor homes or recreational vehicles shall
be parked, kept or stored on any lot, except same shall be enclosed
within a six (6) foot high privacy fence in the rear of the
residence."

I think the company that fenced most of the stuff around our neighborhood was charging like $15 dollars a foot give or take a dollar. Do it yourself...much cheaper.
