Got to the sloop moored above the power plant and started fishing. Crankbaits were the play of the day. Amanda got to break in her new Bill Dance combo ($20 from BPS Christmas special). Whew! Imagine a 10 year old with new spinning rig with 2 treble hooks flying! I thought I would lose an ear a couple of times (it would of been payback from the time I took the fly rod), but like Chalk - it was me that spent a large part of the time squirrel fishing! Past a few boats hunkered down on holes fishing shrimp but we were pulling as many bass out as they were getting hung up on the bottom.
We started at 2 from the fort, got to where we were going and then blew upriver
. We got to come out of our jackets for about an hour or two before the breeze got cold again. Fished until 5:30 and thankfully missed all the traffic at the fort. Woulda, coulda, shoulda fished tourneybut turned out to be a good first time out in a long time with my daughter.
She reminded me that spring is coming soon and this was good practice with her new r&r.
Final: 8 bass all thrown back, assorted oaks, cypress, pine (onland and aquatic)
