Aux. Kicker

Post by Yardarm »

Opinions Please

I have my restoration project nearly done. 21 ft cuddy (alum) with a 4cy mercruiser. 1988 Model.

I am contemplating placing a 10 hp kicker on the transom for "get me back in".
At a probably cost of 500 to 800 for a good used, is it worth the hassle.
In the big bend area is sea tow or other towers available. I notice most of your boats do not have them.
I will have all required safety equip. plus radio, cell phone and GPS.

Hey Yardarm, 'was gonna say something about ya thread last week, but forgot about it.
I don't see a lot of boats around Carrabelle and the general area with aux kickers. 'Think most folks uses TowBoat or just takes they chances.
I use TowBoat, 'cause I just got my old boat and while the motor seems strong and looks unabused, I'm the 3rd owner and don't know it's history.
At about $115-20, it's cheap ease of mind.
I do like to double up on radios, nav eqpt, bilge pumps and such, though.

I did find an interesting thread on another forum with a lots of comments on aux's.

I was at the fisharama last week and met the sea-tow captain from Horseshoe beach. Seems his deal is the way to go. Extra motor and extra gas cans :(
And no guarantee the thing will crank and run the duration.
His charges without the insurance is $150 per hour. It seems to be an excellent deal for you guys that go a lot. One time in on the rope and you have spent about 5 years of insurance. :smt010

Sea Fox. Thanks for the offer , but I think I will go with seatow. Your 9.9 with bracket seems like a good deal for someone. And I do appreciate the offer.
