St. Marks 2/19/05

Put the boat in at the ramp at the fort at St. Marks at 8:00. Saw dstockwell, Mako and Nathan and the other fellow (I didnâ€™t catch his name). They were on the way out to chase the elusive Groupers. I was taking my daughter out for a Father & Daughter fishing day. I had a gut feeling that we would just be fishing and not catching. We ended up sitting at the mouth of the river with three other boats fishing for anything that would bite. There were three older folks in a small green G-3. They were using fiddlers and were doing the only catching I saw all day long. All we could do was watch and get our lines hung on the structure on the bottom. The older folks were slaying the sheephead using fiddlers for bait. It seemed they pulled up sheephead after sheephead each one would fill a dinner plate. I am sure they stayed within the catch limits.

My daughter was getting bored and wanted to visit that strange â€œhump islandâ€

MJ, I don't know the official name, but the folks I know call it Rock Island.

Never knew what folks called that Island, but one thing for sure, that island is composed mostly of rocks and a few cedar trees and some cactus patches. It is a very interesting piece of geography.... a fitting name "Rock Island"

The story could have been better if we had caught some fish. It was nice meeting dstockwell and the others, but it seems we all missed the fish. Even if I don't catch fish I usually bring back images.

There was a part the story I left out. I was the visited from "the man". There were two of them out Saturday and I had a visit from each one. My boat must be a "Law Magnet"

I proudly displayed my sticker and both officers were very kind to me. And later on back at the ramp the man was there checking boats as they returned. I guess he was looking for Trout hunters with trophies.

Actually, what MJ has is the RAM mount. I've been using them ever since I broke the third Garmin mount. They're great.

Welby- Thanks for the complement on the mount- Like TC says it's a RAM mount. TC offers excellent advice on equipment as well as fishing..you name it.....I got one on his advice, and I really like it. It is on a ball-joint and is adjustable in any direction or angle, and extremely tough. I wish I had one like it for the depthfinder....
