Weird weekend with lack of tide movement and remaining cool water.
Stepson Mark from Jackson AL met me at THE HIDEOUT late Friday and we ran out for about an hour toward Hickory Mound in about 3 feet depth
and threw Catch Jrs and jigs tipped with shrimp and caught couple
keepers and 3 shorts. We got out about 10 on Saturday and fished
from just west of Rock Island back towards Econfina for about
6 hours. Most interesting think we saw was about 7-8 schools of
large spanish working the surface in large circles. Tried to follow them and threw spoons into them without success. Worked depths from
4 feet to shoreline and into couple creekmouths which was limited due
to low water. Grand total for the day was 2 keeper trout and couple of
nice flounder and we had about 7-8 shorts. Truly a day of "fishing" so by Sunday am with only couple hours to fish we wanted to do some "catching."
Left river about 9:30 and worked toward Aucilla into small creek, again
on very skinny water. We found one "hole" about 3.5' about 1/2 acre
in size. Between 10 and noon we boated 9 keeper trout between
17.5 and 23 all on Catch Jr. Used electric motor and just kept moving around the small area and casting. We also released about dozen 14 inchers. Mark caught one really nice flounder about 3.5 lbs. Needless to say, it was a great couple hours of "catching."

Needed: more water movement with better tides and most of all some
warmer water. The highest I read was 62 degrees.

We did hear one guy on radio Saturday after lunch say he just caught
a "6.5 lb trout...my biggest ever." A few minutes later someone
called and asked the length and he responded "I'm still shaking too
hard to measure him." :-D

Had a great fishning partner even though he is from Alabama. :-D

Great report, thanks for all the detail. Had best intentions to get out last weekend, but family and chores kept me at home. A 3.5 lb. flounder would make my day anytime!
