Alligator Point & St. Teresa 3-25

Post by dolphinatic »

Got to the Alligator Point Marina around 9:00 only to be informed that the landing is for members only now  . We were wanting to fish St. Teresa and the Point, so we went back to Mashes Sands and launched there. After 25 minutes, we were rounding the tip of AP and were greeted by some long awaited sunshine and the most porposies I have ever seen inshore. We headed towards the shoreline to fish some spots that I hadn't been to in years. We started a drift throwing live scrimps under a CT and chugbugs. Nothing hit the topwater, but the action was nice on the CT's. I decided to go to SWA's under a CT and they liked that even more. The first 10 or so trout were all short by 1", but a few keepers finally got in on the act. My son wanted to stay with the scrimp and he managed to catch a small shark......

A little bit later, he managed a nice trout and told me he was sticking to his stradegy.....

We caught fish up and down the shoreline, but most were just under size. We managed only 1 redfish that was also just short. After a few hours, we decided to head out to deeper water and pick up a few rock bass. We fished a nice hole in 35' for about 45 minutes and then decided to head on in with a nice cooler of fish.

All in all it ended up being a nice day after the monsoon passed on through around 11:00. We didn't let the awful early morning weather ruin our day and it made this dad proud to have a youngin' who is willing to put up with the weather just to catch a few fish right beside dad!!!

Here's a pic at the end of the day with the boy's "catch of the day".....

I have been a bit "out of the loop" lately, and this is the first fishing report I have read in a couple of weeks, it seems like. And a great one it is! Couldn't be better!

Good story, well told, nice pics!

Thanks for a nice break!

PS: That's a shame about the ramp at the marina closing to just us folks. I thought the County owned that landing. In the 13'er I usually fish that area by putting in at the landing at Sun 'n' Sand Road, off Alligator Point Rd., but 4-wheel drive is recomemended.

I was told by a lady at the marina that I had to be a taxpayer of Alligator Point in order to have my name put on the "list" to use the ramp.....there is still a sign there saying to pay the launch fee to ramp, but she said they don't accept launch fees anymore. I went over to the ramp off AP road, but the wind and surf was a bit much for me to want to launch there. I've got a 4WD and have backed down there a few times, just not with the 22' that I have now. I've got a 12' that I also launch there and over at St. Teresa off 98. I decided to just launch at Mashes Sands and enjoy the ride back over to AP......

Nice report Mr. D. And, a fine fishing partner ya got there. He'll be good as his dad at this inshore fishing by the time he's 15.
All my fishing partners were girls as a dad, but I got a 2 YO grandson, that's growing up fast.
'Cain't wait 'til I can teach him to fish and spit, and all th' stuff a little redneck needs to know...New territory for me.
