Over the river and through the woods, 4/4

Post by Nathan »

After canceling my trip yesterday due to weather I decided that today I'd give it another shot. Got out of my last class at 3:30 and raced back to my apartment to finish loading my stuff. Left Tallahassee right at 4:00. Put in at Wakulla Beach at a little before 5:00 with a 10 knot + wind blowing in my face. Definately not as nice as I had hoped, but fishable. Headed straight into the wind, making 3 knots, towards the Northwest tip of Patty's Island. Anchored up a little over 1/2 mile short of Patty's Island and proceeded to catch several dink trout. Dink trout quit biting after a few so I paddled the last 1/2 mile to Patty's Island. Started a drift just West of Patty's Island. The wind had shifted directions slightly by this point becoming more out of the West. It seems a few trout liked my jig combination being drifted at about 1 knot. Ended up catching six keeper trout 15-18" in length plus a few more dinks. Kept 1 trout around 16" for a fish meal sometime this week. Pulled back up to the beach about 8:15 just as the sun hid behind a few clouds. Back in Tallahassee with gear cleaned up and showered by 9:30. All the keeper trout came out of at least 5 foot of water on an 1/8 oz. Strikeking jighead with a 6" twirl tail grub(the color is a secret). A lot of the dink trout came on a Terminator inline spinnerbait with an electric chicken grub tail on it.
