Spark Plug Question

Post by BOWD UP »

I have a 2001, 90 hp Johnson OceanPro. In the top 2 cylinders there are Champion QL78YC spark plugs, and the bottom 2 have Champion QL82YC plugs. I've gone to the Champion website, but found no difference in the plug specs. I believe these are the origional plugs too. Is there any reason why there would be two different model number plugs in the motor??? I've posted this question on http://www.MarineEngine.com, but no responses yet.

The QL82YC is a hotter plug. That said, if you do a lot of trolling, or idleing, I would stay with the 82's. If you don't idle much, I'd stay with the 78's.

That said, you should have the same plugs in all four holes. Look on the Johnson website.

This was under the "Contact Us" section on the Johnson Outboard Web Site.

CONSUMERS - please contact our Customer Support Services at 847-689-7090. For fastest service, please have the serial number and model number of your motor available for the technician who answers your call.

They have always been real helpful with trouble shooting and customer questions.

Here's a link to their web site.
