A Cure for Sea Sickness???

Post by georgiasportsman »

I'm going deep sea fishing for only my second time this Saturday. The last time I got pretty sick. :smt078 I've never been sick inshore or freshwater fishing. I guess not being able to see land is what changes things. I'd like to hear what you guys use to prevent motion sickness.

There is no real cure for sea sickness, only prevention... Dramamine...

I got sick on my first deep sea trip also. I have never been sea sick again.

Good luck finding a cure.

Start taking dramamine the day before so it will be in your system good. And stay away from greasy foods the evening before and the morning of the trip. I have got in the habit of eating powderd donuts for breakfast the morning of the trip. Good luck! 8)

Besides the Dramamine, lay off the alcohol. Some people get sick offshore if they drink the night before or during the trip.

I agree for the greasy food statement, also pray for a 2 ft or less day, usually its a case of building up you sea legs. It seems that occasional fishermen are more prone to seasickness than guys that go regular. I usually feel sick the 1st time out in a long while but once i get started back 2x per mth i feel fine. Good luck ! frank

Thanks for the repsonses. I'll pick up some Dramamine. Has anyone tried the patch behind the ear or the pressure point bracelet. I'm skeptical of the bracelet, but I talked to someone the other day that praised it as a miracle preventitive measure. I'll let you guys know how it goes and hopefully have some pictures (of the fish - not the sea sick folks). :D

Of course if you know your going to get sick you might as well chew up a bunch of LY's so you can chum at the same time. :-D

The advice regarding no alcohol the night before , or greasy food for breakfast, is good.

My brother use to suffer with sea sickness and I found that having crackers/biscuits for him to nibble on regularly throughout the day, fresh water to drink and keeping him busy (preferrably catching fish), was very effective.

Best of luck, forget about sea sickness and enjoy the day.

You guys missed the best prevention.....catching fish. It is amazing how much better you feel when the fish are bitting.

I have a relief band on the boat. My experience with it is, if you start feelling the " somethings wrong feeling " put it on. You will still feel bad and want to lay down but seems to keep you from chumming.. f
