Lake Blackshear Report

Post by chugbug »

We left the house about 0600 and launched at Boy Scout Slough at 0845. We then headed South to the fisrt big slough on the left. We fished a few docks and then motored over and behind a row of cypress trees to get out of the wind. My partner caught a dink off a brush pile on a black Culprit. I was pitching a black/blue jig with little success and my daughter was using a black worm as well. We fished around with no other bites and then headed to Warren slough up past the bridges. While we were headed that way we came across a man that was having engine troubles. He said it wouldn't go into forward gear. Bad thing was it was an '05 Mercury 250 :o . After further inspection I found that it had broken the shift bracket. So he started it and I put it in gear for him and he drove off.

After we got in Warren Slough we started pitching worms at the bank and docks just messing around . My partner (Tom) catches another one about 3.5 pounds swimming a jig. By this time I just figure I am jynxed for the day. My daughter has quit fishing an hour ago but is just enjoying being out there and boat riding. That's pretty much how the day ended. We didn't catch anything else but a mud fish. We did get to ride alot and that was fun. The water was very choppy with a stiff North wind. Water in the main lake was like chocolate milk and cleared up back in the sloughs. I am not sure what the water temp was as the guage was broke.

I was wondering how the lakes would be yesterday. Spent my day in the woods trying for a turkey.
Real windy and kinda cool.
I hate to try and fish in wind like that.
But I'm sure it was nice just to be out there, it was for me even though no gobbles.
