Private Pond/ Jefferson Co.

Didn't have enough time to head to the saltwater, so I decided to head to the woods and try to do some bass fishing for a change. Was gonna fish with some wigglers, but the bait shop was closed, so I just decided to go with artificial. I loaded up the 12 footer and picked up my buddy Jeff on the way. We got to the pond around 7:00 pm and started throwing rapalas and beetle spins....a deadly combination in this pond! We caught a few small bass to start and then the speckled perch got in on the action. They were hitting our lures on every other cast. We put a few of them in the well hoping for a nice bass to go with them. About a 1/2 hour before sindown I switched to a topwater plug with no luck. Just for fun I decided to put on a favorite trout lure, a red/white Catch 2000, and man did the bass love it! I caught six in a matter of 15 minutes and put 3 in the well...released the others. We fished till 8:30, then pulled the boat back on the trailer and headed home with a nice cooler of specks and bass......a few misquito bites too. Nice evening on the pond.....
Next time we''ll go with 3-4 cups of wigglers and slay the bluegill too!

TOTAL CATCH:

8 BASS (10" - 21") KEPT 3 OF THE SMALLER
???? SPECKLED PERCH (9" - 14")

  Good job! I figured bass would bite a Catch 2000.
They feed so much like trout. Go catch some bream next time. :smt004
