May buy an engine

Post by rx fisher »

I've got an 30hp susuki 1983 with some engine problems,
repair shop says, bad CVI unit and poor voltage. repairs could
run up to $1000.00.

Repair shop, also has a 1995 40hp mercury, just rebuilt with power tilt and trim, installed $2000.

What do you guys think, what questions should I be asking?

For about $3200-3400, you can buy a New 2003 Nissan 40 with tilt and trim and oil injection delivered to your door from Cabelas with no tax or freight. You may find a local dealer that will match that. Also check Tohatsu - that's one tough little engine. You should be able to find some awesome deals on new engines now due to end of year prices. I'd seriously look at those before I spent two grand on a used motor, but if it is really good shape, it might be a deal.

Why was it rebuilt and exactly what did the rebuild cover? What kind of warranty will this guy give you on this rebuilt motor??

We are looking into repowering the pontoon boat - possibly with a four stroke fifty. There are alot of choices and prices change daily. It can seem mind-boggling at times. If you find a price on-line, I would see if a local dealer would match it. That way you can buy local but still get the best price out there.

Dealerships don't like to service stuff they didn't sell.
I've learned this from experience.
It's a small world, unless you had to paint it.

Yeah, ask the guys who drive to the Sports Center in Perry for those great deals, but don't want to take them all the way back up there for service. Some dealers can be less than cooperative, especially on warranty work.

Going to look at the Tohatsu dealer in tally today,
Went yesterday to the Marine dealer that I thought was on N. Monroe
but they closed,
I'll head to Tenn ST and look around
I sure wish I was fishing.

Tohatsu/Nissan is a good engine. I've heard good reviews. A guy in Valdosta sells them, so there are quite a few around Suwnnee now. Everyone I've talked to loves them and compares them to Yamaha.

RX Fisher, If you were looking for the marine dealer on N Monroe, located behind the Goodwill store, I think they moved just a mile or so further North. I believe they are just across the street from the Winn Dixie now.
