fuel additives

Post by finniefish »

This is a new boat to me and I am considering using a fuel additive. In reading and getting others opinions, I was curious what you all thought of the different brands, cause I know you guys have an opinion. Ringfree and valvtec are the ones I am hearing the most about. Ringfree getting the most hype, but it sure is expensive.

Is ringfree worth the extra cost?

I had a mechanic say that once you choose a brand stick with it and don't switch?

I had another say they were all pretty much the same.

I run Lucas gas treatment in mine. It is more to prevent varnish build up in the fuel system. I'm not sure what it does for the carbon which is what ring free is for.

I've run ring free in mine since it was new and have around 500 hours on the plugs right now :-D but it's also a four stroke

Seafoam is good, but I now think it works "too good". :-D I had a problem with my motor cutting out some between 1800-2200 RPM range...so I added some to the gas.....it had it running better the last time I went fishing. Apparently it really cleaned some junk...it clogged the carbs! :o Oh well..they needed a re build anyways.

I have heard Sta-Bil is excellent to put in your fuel if it is going to sit up for a little while.
