Went to Aucilla yesterday....11 May 05. Marine forcast was 5-10 mile wind....1-2 foot seas.Great. When we rounded the corner at the enterance of the river it was very choppy. When we got out on the flats it was 2-3 foot seas...and riseing. Didn't get started till noon. By 1-2 o'clock it was not possibe to go over a few mph when facing south. Got wet all over at times.
When we first got there...about half way to Econfina....I got about a 2 pounder within 5 minutes of arriving...on a Catch 2000...Charterus. Two minutes later I got my second 2 pounder. My buddy switched to the same color....first cast he landed one at 15 1/2 inches. We hadn't been there over 15 minutes. He threw his "keeper" back...saying.....there's much bigger ones to be had. Point of order.....never take points off the board. Never. That was the last fish he caught all day...that he could keep. Caught 2 more shorts though...and had one cut off...probably on a blue.
I did not catch one more fish after my second 2 pounder. Had 1 cut off too.
The wind built all afternoon and when we left I was 3 in. shorter because of all the pounding I got in the front of the boat. Not fit for small boats...we had an 18 footer. Seas were at least 4 foot swells
My son is down there today....and the report about noon from him was pounding seas...slow going...and a few keeper fish...down toward the bird racks. Not setting the woods on fire. Water temp was 76 degrees...mostly stained.
Hopfully it will be better at Bottoms this afternoon when I get out there it is tuff when ya brave that rough stuff and don't get the reward of lots a fish for it better luck next time
